ARC Grant Success
Along with Aynsley Kellow I was fortunate enough to receive a $66,000 Australian Research Council Discovery Grant to fund my research on international taxation. The details of the funding are as follows:
DP1095946 Dr R Eccleston; Prof AJ Kellow
Project Title: Interdependence, transnational institutions and the governance of international taxation in the 21st Century
Project Funding:
2010 : $ 22,000
2011 : $ 22,000
2012 : $ 22,000
Primary RFCD: 3602 POLICY AND ADMINISTRATION
Institution: University of Tasmania
Project Summary: The global financial crisis is placing national tax systems under unprecedented competitive pressures. In such an environment the need for international tax cooperation has never been greater. Using comparative analysis this project will seek to establish which transnational institutions and governance systems best support international tax cooperation. By doing so it will enhance both the ability of state and non-state actors to develop and refine strategies for participating in such systems and the prospects for achieving cooperation in this critical aspect of world affairs.
Book contract signed
I have just signed a book contract to publish by current research on the impact of the GFC on international tax regulation. The working title of book is ‘The dynamics of global economic governance: The GFC, the OECD and the transformation of international tax regulation’. The book will be published by the UK publisher Edward Elgar (who also published my 2007 book Taxing Reforms). I plan to finish the manuscript in mid-2010. The hardback edition will be published later that year with a paperback edition to follow.
Sovereign Wealth Funds Workshop: Brisbane November 3-4
Sovereign Wealth Funds, or state-owned investment funds, have grown rapidly in recent years and now manage in excess of $3 trillion in assets. Despite wide spread concerns about their existence and growth, there is little systematic research on how nature of the various SWFs, how they are managed and their impact on the domestic and international political economy. I was invited to contribute to a workshop on the political economy of SWFs hosted by the Griffith Asia Institute in Brisbane. The workshop will culminate in a book on the political economy of SWFs (edited by Xu-Yi chong and Gawdat Bahgat) to be publish by Palgrave in 2010.
