APSA Paper on Global Governance Beyond the GFC

The Australian Political Studies Association is holding its annual conference during the last week in September. I’m presenting two papers. One (with Aynsley Kellow and Peter Carroll) on the deepening of inter-organisational networks in global governance in the aftermath of the GFC. Specifically the paper explores the relationship between the G20 leaders forum and OECD in relation to international tax matters. The second paper (with Ian Marsh) is an assessment of what the politics surrounding the Henry tax review says about the capacity of the Australian political system to generate and implement long-term reform agendas. If you would like a copy of either paper please feel free to email me – richard.eccleston@utas.edu.au

National Health and Hospital Reform

Most of my recent time and energy has been devoted to finishing my current book on the international tax regulation amid the GFC. However, Adrian Kay (ANU) and I were invited to make a submission the Senate Economics Committee Inquiry into the ALP’s National Health and Hospitals legislation. While the model is complex, I’m of the view that State’s will continue to be the funders of last resort for the Public Hospital system and Adrian is not confident the regime will deliver efficiency gains. The submission can be accessed here

Benjamin Eccleston

Its been a busy time on the domestic front with the arrival of Benjamin on May 16 2010. While things are going pretty well (thanks to Claire’s hard work) and Sam and Nicholas love having a baby brother spare time has become a non-existent commodity.
